Do you want to know about Siberian Huskies?

How do you handle Huskies that run from home all the time?

Mine never run. Why? Because we're paranoid and never give them the chance! We got lucky with Loki - he never figured out that he could probably scale the short fence we have on one side of the yard, and he's never shown any interest in digging out. Leah's too old to try :-) Roary's still new, so she might be a problem... I sure hope not!

We never leave the dogs outside unsupervised, we always leash up before opening the front door, and the only place they're off leash is the dog park. I guess the answer to the question is to just be super-careful. If they ever did get loose, we'd probably be in trouble, since "come" isn't in their vocabulary!

That's a great reply, Stephanie.
Mine never have the chance to run, and the few times that a couple of our boys have gotten lose, they either run to us or around the house. However, as you say, the key is to never give them the chance. Thank you...JOSE...

Yes, huskies love to test their limits. My husky has escaped many times and we've had neighborhood huntdowns for her LOL.. Fencing is a very good idea. And just always keep one eye on your husky cuz they are very curious/adventurous by nature. My husky, Hallie, used to dig holes under fences (and not to mention the entire backyard looked like a minefield LOL), hop neighboring fences.. She actually snuck out the door once LOL. My niece left door slightly cracked while she ran outside for a minute. Within that minute, she literally snuck out hahaha... My niece caught her shadow creepin down the stairs... then off she went but we trapped her in the nieghbors yard across the street. Ah they love to run

Yes, they can be testy. I have a girl that got lose a few weeks ago and went away for three hours. She came back at 2 in the morning. Then, I caught her harrassing my chickens' coops.

I have another girl who breaks out of any kennel when she wants to. She jumps in the pond and then waits for me, even in the winter. Ha, ha...

My boys, except for one, are more mellow. They stay around. My bad one, Rusty, has killed a few of my rabbits. It was terrible for us, but there's nothing we can do; that's their nature.

My female will escape to go run any chance she gets...my male will follow her if he has the chance as well. Once out running my male will come to me when I call him but my female knows she is free and will run by me several times to show me she is free and will come back when she is ready too - and not a minute before. I've learned to control their access and since they really like their crates its not hard at home. My problem now is my female has learned she can swim across the water barrier at the dog park and now she swims across at will just to be able to go run in the rest of the county park. Does anyone have any experience with preventing this type of behavior?? We live in SC and come April it will be 80+ until ~8pm so they need to go to the dog park that has water for them to play in to keep cool - but now that she swims across on her own I just can't risk her getting hit by a car, being stolen, bothering people (she's very very friendly), etc. She will come back eventually but I just can't take the risk. Once summer comes it will be 90+ until ~8pm so they will only be able to tolerate 15-20 min of play and they really need 60-90 min. I've thought about using GPS tracking but that doesn't really address the issue.
