Siberian Husky Talk

Do you want to know about Siberian Huskies?

Hello all! I am not too familiar with the Husky breed, so this might just be one of those Husky quirks....
My Skye is a very finicky eater. She will LOVE one food for a while and scarf it down at every meal, then gradually just turn her nose to it and will NOT eat. Her weight fluxtuates because of this and I know it is not healthy. I have to switch foos every month or so just so she'll eat. Is this a Husky thing, or something I have to worry about? She is currently the only dog, so I don't know if that has to do with anything since we are gone from 7-6 5 days a week. Loneliness?? Depression?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

My Sibes tend to be finicky eaters too. What I do is to mix their dry food with the same brand's can food when they get to the point when they are bored. I only feed them a little of the can food with the dry food, and they love it!

Huskies are pack animals, so she might be lonely during the day. You may want to leave her an abundant amount of toys and chew bones such as raw hide or my Sibes' favorite "pigears." I only give the latter once in a while. ;O)

We have one finicky eater - Leah. I went through the same thing - switching foods, adding 'toppings', etc. She's still picky now but I've decided to let her decide. Food comes up after a few minutes and if she skips a meal or two, she'll eat the next one! But if Skye is skipping more than a meal or two, then you'll need to find another answer.

I think adding different 'toppings' is probably what works best. I used to buy a whole chicken when grocery shopping, throw it in the slow cooker, and then tear it apart to add a little bit to each meal. You can use anything healthy - my childhood dog liked carrots and tofu in his bowl! If you can do something 'natural', I think that's better than the commercial toppings full of artificial stuff. Lunch meat, veggies, chicken, yogurt, etc - just be sure it's safe for dogs (you can search the web for lists of bad foods, like grapes, raisins, onion, etc).

Good luck - you're definitely not the first Husky owner with a picky eater - I've heard a lot of people say the same thing.

Thanks all for the replies! I'm gonna try the topping idea and see what she thinks!!
